About our Family Participation Program:

  • Each family contributes 40 hours per school year
  • Hours are flexible and reflect the diverse interests and availability of family members.
  • Opportunities include working in your child's classroom, helping in the office, joining a committee, helping with fundraising and participating in our family majority Board of Directors

Other Info:

  • School hours - Kindergarten 8:45 to 2:15 p.m. First thru Fifth grades 8:45 to 3:15 p.m. Sixth thru Eighth grades 8:35 to 3:15. *All students dismissed at 1:05 p.m. every Tuesday.
  • Small class size - 20 students in kindergarten, 21 students 1st-5th and 24 students 6th-8th.
  • K thru 3rd grade students take art/music/movement classes once a week all year
  • 4th thru 8th grade students take arts core (art, music or dance) twice per week and an arts elective one per week
  • Students spend two years with the same teacher K-5
  • School expansion plan: Every other year (2007, 2009, etc.) we take 2 K classes (this keeps us small AND financially stable)
  • Enrolled families become members of the corporation with certain responsibilities, such as voting in board elections
  • Family majority board of directors to run non-profit; ensure stakeholder voice
  • Grading on a trimester calendar - 3 report cards per year, progress reports if needed mid-trimester. No letter grades until 6th grade-report cards are comprehensive checklists based on a system called work sampling system.
  • Before and aftercare program (fee-based) from 7AM to 6PM
  • PE teacher/class for all grades
  • Team sports offered for 5th through 8th grade students (Independent Schools League). Includes volleyball, track, basketball, futsol and softball.

Admissions:

  • How do we apply?. - Apply directly to Creative Arts. Do not list Creative Arts as a choice on the SFUSD application. Provide completed applications with required documentation by 2:00 p.m. the last school day of February.
  • How many spots are available?
    20 for Kindergarten 2008, other grades vary. We average 0-4 openings in each class above kindergarten.
  • When will we hear about openings?
    Offers letters are sent in March. However, we may not have confirmed openings in grades 1 through 8 until the end of the school year or in the summer.
