Our Campus

Creative Arts Charter School is located at 1601 Turk Street in the Western Addition neighborhood in San Francisco. Our buildings houses our full K-8 program, with lower grades on the first floor and upper grades on the second floor. Three playyards offer students multiple opportunities for recess and physical education activities, and include two play structures, a climbing wall, basketball courts, and lots of space to run. Our site also features dedicated facilities for our arts program, including two art studios, a music studio, and a dance studio. We also have a computer room and library, along with a "Cafetorium" that hosts not only breakfast and lunch daily, but also lively student and guest artist performances as well as our weekly community meetings.

CACS is an active member of the Western Addition neighborhood, opening our doors to the community at events such as the Fall Fair, San Francisco Sunday Streets, and our Winter Book and Craft Fair. In addition, we partner with many neighborhood organizations, such as the African American Culture Center or the Ella Hill Hutch Community Center, for the benefit of both our students and the community.

Easy access to downtown San Francisco offers our students fantastic field trip opportunities, as they can walk to the San Francisco Opera, the San Francisco Symphony, City Hall, the Asian Art Museum, the Hearst Theater, and more. Students also perform community service in and near our neighborhood, such as creating art with the elderly at the Victorian Manor Senior Center or serving meals at Glide Memorial. Kindergarteners study the trees in Alamo Square, while third graders examine the historic Painted Ladies as part of their study of San Francisco history. Multiple bus lines serve our school including the 5-Fulton, the 22-Fillmore, and the 24-Divisadero, allowing easy access to other city neighborhoods.

CACS buildings are owned and maintained by the San Francisco Unified School District. As part of the bond modernization project, the district began updating our site in the Spring of 2011. Renovations include increasing our accessibility and bringing the site into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act; upgrading our safety systems, improving our building shell, and modernizing our site with updated floors, bathrooms, window coverings, cabinetry, and new paint. We will also be updating our main play yards, and will install new fencing and a new security system.

During this past summer, the district renovated our kindergarten classrooms as well as our Annex building, which we are using this year as a temporary home for our classes during the second phase of renovation on our main building. The renovation will be completed by June, 2012. We look forward to showing off our remodeled facilities next year, and to staying in our current facility for many years to come.
